well i need to change the PTo on my 970 from 540 rpms to 1000 rpms pto. Guy who i bought it from said to just take the ring out holding it in and pull the shaft out and switch it around. And he said i gotta pull the sencing leaver on the console foreward to get it to work right. is it this simple (kinda like on the jd new gens?) or is there more involved to it than stated. He said he has never switched it. i don't know if it has been switched at all in it's lifetime. thanks
DF

No reason to move the sensing lever! Only have to flip the shaft around like stated already and make sure the snap ring is seated correctly.

Other leaver is sensing leaver used for plowing . It sets sensitivity of 3 point arms.Has nothing to do with pto but if i remember on our 1070 they seemed to move together due to being on same shaft on console .

Dont know what he means about moving leaver but my advise is have leaver in disengaged position with engine stopped!!! Than do as he said -with pliers squese snap ring together an remove- than pull out short shaft(might have to wiggle it) than turn around an insert back in again you might have to wiggle or turn slightly till all lines up an goes in till you can replace snap ring. Do not hammer or force!!!! Very easy to do,

he is talking about a leaver real close to the seat (below the PTO leaver)that has a scale looking thing on it. He said to move the leaver if i ever switch the PTO around but this tractor is a powershift, maybe it is different on the 8 speed trannys. I have done a few on the JD's and it's pretty simple. it's just that this is a new (to me) tractor and i don't have a manual and need to know soon since i want to chop first crop hay with it and the chopper is a JD with a 1000 RPM PTO shaft on it
Thanks
DF

Quick and easy. Should take less than two minutes.
