I went to stamm's equipment in Waylon, MI, looking for the part that holds the oil filter. They wanted 35$ for one off of a parts tractor. I thought it was rediculouse, but is that what they run. They have one thats in great condition as the filter has been on since it has sat outside.

Is that what i should pay or can I find it cheaper.

If I remember right there are 3 different ones of these. I do remember that the aluminum ones will fit all. The earlier ones are cast iron and do not have enough offset to clear something - governor linkage maybe. Some have a different or no bypass. Jerry

E-mail me, I think I have an extra one or two. I'll sell it to you at half that cost.

They seem to be selling used for about $30. I would have the seller take the filter off and check that the stem tube is still in there before buying.

There are, at least 3 different kinds, found on the VA series tractors, all have the same body to engine mounting. Some have a by-pass valve for whatever good that is on a by-pass filter system.

This one appears to have that valve.

These by-pass filters are not Case specific, they were used on a variety of engines during that era. Basically, 10 - 15% of the oil pump output passed through the filter and dropped back into the crankcase.

Any Case tractors w/gas engines in the series VA, 200, 300, 300B, and probably others will bolt up and function on the VA series engines.

What I meant by different types, refers to the style of the filter body in regard to by-pass valve or no valve, method of metering and spray pattern.

This one in the pix off a VA has one hole at the top of the stem tube to direct the oil to the top of the filter media. There is no orifice or by-pass valve in the body.

I have another off a VA that has 3 holes at the top of the stem tube that directs the oil spray both up and laterally, no by-pass valve or orifice in the body.

The one on ebay appears to have a by-pass valve in the body. I have seen these on later VA but not on later series tractors.

Another pix next post.

I bought this one from a seller on ebay that was parting out a later (1952?)VAC. I don't know that it is original to VA series, just the seller's word and that all his other auctions were VA tractor parts.

This is the only one I've seen with an orifice in the body. It has one hole at the top of the stem tube and no by-pass valve. I have this mounted on a '56 310 which has the same bolt up and oil passage arrg't as the VA.
