Hi... a friend of mine just bought a 411B with the Case-O-Matic Torque Converter trans. Seems to try to shift but never really moves maybe just a bit when it first shifts. We wanted to start by checking fluid levels. So the question is how do you check the oil level for the torque converter? and which plug do you open to put the fluid in?
I usually hang out over on the MF board. MF had an Instant Reverse or Reverse-o-Matic trans. It was only used in the Industrial Tractors. Odd thing about it was the PTO reverses when trans reverses! Thanks, Gary

you have to check the caseomatic oil level when the engine is running, when its not the oil will be way up on the dipstick....

Hey Gary I"ll be the first to admit that I"m a little dense, don"t understand what you mean by "seems to try to shift but never really moves maybe just a little bit when it first shifts". Please forgive me, I am not trying to insult anyones intelligence here. When putting the C.O.M. equipped tractor in gear you engage the clutch valve pedal (engine at idle)shift the transmission to the appropiate gear and let out the clutch pedal. Now open the throttle (the torque converter is working now) and if you are in a low enough gear whatever load you are pulling will be moving, once you are up to speed, shift to direct drive. Any time you stop and start again you will be using the torque converter. Thanks for listening, Harry

Harry, no offence taken. I think some of the excess oil will need to be drained from the trans rear axle and the torque converter hydraulic sections before proceeding.
Thank you for the explanation on how to use the COM.
This tractor came to my friend as a non-running non operating unit. He would like to check it out before deciding what he will do with it. So far he has the engine running and the hydraulics for the 3-point work. The COM is a bit of a mystery! Will keep you posted. Gary

look right down in front of the seat and there is about a 1" nut, maybe a little bigger. unscrew that and it will have a dipstick on it. if your seating in the seat just reach down inbetween your legs with your left hand. further forward on the right is a little dipstick, check it also

Thankyou for reply, is there a common sump for torque converter, transmission, hydraulics and rear axle? Gary

411b has two sumps one for hydraulic and case-o-matic and one for 4speed and final drive. 90 wt oil in the back one normally.

Thanks, soooo the front dipstick will be for the case-o-matic and hydraulics and the dipstick on the big nut under the seat is for the 4speed and final drive?
Just got back from checking and both locations are way over full and oil looks the same maybe tdh/universal type tractor oil. Gary
