I just picked up an older 10" Case grain drill - metal boxes, on rubber. Where is the model number located? Also no charts inside the boxes. Anyone still sell manuals? Thanks.

It could be a D Series which came after the L but very similar. Either way, your hopper should be galvanized and the Case decal should be in the middle of the box. I'll bet someone did an "upgrade" on your drill at one time. Case didn't paint their boxes until '69 or '70 when they were made for Case by Melroe-Kirshman and they painted them Desert Sunset.
If you can't find the model number or aquire a manual, then just pull a drop tube off the outside row next to the fence and tie a bag to the seed cup and start drilling for a bit. Measure off the distance traveled. Remove the bag and weigh it with a fish scale or kitchen scale (less the weight of the bag). Grab your calculater and do the math. You should be able to get your drill set close enough after a few tries to at least avoid a disaster of drilling at a half rate or putting on too much seed. Good Luck!

wheat stubble,

Mine is a 1950 with galvanized boxes that

were factory painted .

The planting charts were heavy paper and

were attached to the lid with metal clips.

It had seed boxes forward and fertilizer

boxes rear and also grass seed boxes on the

front of the seed boxes. 16 disc with 7 inch

spacing , boxes were split with 8 tubes fed

from each box . It was a L with low wheels

(16 inch tires ).

Here are a couple more pictures. I also noticed that most of the metering parts would have a 3-digit number followed by the letter "L."

George,
Thanks. It's 130 miles away right now, but as soon as I can get up there, I'll take a picture and send to you.
