Hi.My brother used my Dad's 530 the other day.Now it won't go into reverse 1st or second.Apparently it will go int 3rd and 4th.He says the shift lever is sloppy around the start position on the transmission.I thought we were looking at a clutch problem, now I'm not so sure.Fork problem?Any help? It's a 4 speed with high low range.

You don't say whether tractor will move in 3rd and 4th gear....it definitely sounds like a fork problem,,,,these tractors were prone to it. Take the lid off the transmission and see what you find.Soometimes the end of the shifter will break off. If that happens with the transmission engaged it is necessary to break the lid in order to get it off because one of the rails will be trapped under the transmission housing.

Don't break the transmission cover!!!!!

Try to pry up the front or back, it is unlikely one rail is shifted up and one back so you should be able to get one end up. If you can get one end up 3/4-1" then slip a pice of flat bar behind the offending rail and work it back to center.

I inadvertently got mine in this position one time and was able to work the rail back to center and get the transmission cover off and repostion the cluster gear and forks to neutral and put the case cover back on correctly.

If you do have to break it you will have to find one from a scrap yard to fit it and pay who knows what and shipping.

If you do break it Google Ruscha Machinery and e-mail Thad about the cover. He has lots of Cases and will treat you right price wise. They are good folks!!
