Looking to upgrade and can't justify a Magnum so am looking for a 1370 or 22/2390. Have run 1370's for years but really like the 90 series tractors too. what's the story on the tranny rebuilds on the 90's - is that not true on the 70's? Was something changed there from the earlier series to the 90's? I always hear about the non-Case crowd saying to run away from the 90' series but I still like them. many of you must own/run some of each - would appreciate any input. Thx.

Simple and short... get a 90 series! The powershifts were identical in the two tractors. If one does go out drill and tap the holes to 7/16" and all will be cured. I would think by now most have already had updates done to them. Get a 2290 if you want a dual speed pto (although not all were setup that way) since none of the 1270,1370,2390,2590's were available with a 540 pto nore can they be adapted.

2390's and 2590's have 1/2" bolts in the power shift from the factory along with a stronger output bearing on the power shift. 20/2290's still had the 3/8" bolts.

You're probably right, I thought I was told once that the 90 series were still the 3/8 while the 94 series had the 1/2. But I suppose 3/8 wouldn't hold up very long behind that massive 504.

We have had Case tractors from the 30 series thru the 94 series and into the Magnums. We had to update the 1370 powershift at 3000hrs and the 2390 we did at 22xxhrs. The 23 did not need it, but the hydraulic bearing up underneath the cab went out and since we had it all apart we went ahead and updated it. We didn't have any trouble with either since. The red 94 series with 24 spd came out with the updated powershift, 1/2" bolts instead of 3/8", even some of the updated 94's still had powershift failures. The 870, 970, and 2090 have never given us any trouble. My preference to run one in the field all day is the 90/94 series, much better, roomier, and quieter cab than the 70's. Our 13 could never match or out pull the 23 (both were putting out the same hp on dyno), so I didn't miss it when we sold it and bought a 3594. We're still not afraid to buy Case powershifts.

We've owned Case tractors since the 1470 were first on the market. In the 90 series we had a 4690 and 4890 each of them had the powershift rebuilt at 1500 hr. At the time we had them rebuilt they put the update in the powershift and we had no problem after that with them. We just sold the 4690 in Jan. of this year so it's been 20-25 year since we fixed it. If it has been rebuilt I don't think there is any worry with a 90 series tractor. Frank
