I've been reading about the use of molasses to remove rust. Has anyone tried putting in plug holes to free a stuck engine?
Thanks dave

I think a huge factor is "How bad the engine is stuck". If you have rust in all cylinders you"ll be lucky to get the pistons out in one usable piece. If it"s just from sitting dry, you might fill the jugs with ATF and loose trailer it around the farm awhile. Leaving it loose(and in low gear) will allow the pistons to work forth and back and hopfully free it up.

I have heard of using a grease fitting in the spark plug hole to push the piston out. Molasis is a new one to me though.

The current issue of 'Antique Power' magazine has a short article on freeing engines by cranking a bolt. The bolt pushes against a plate attached to the head bolts. Dunno if it works, but it gave pretty detailed instructions of how to make the device.

I"ve heard there is more to this. Apparently there is a slight acidity to the molasses that helps to break down some of the rust. Do a google search on molasses rust removal and you"ll find a bunch of information on it from various groups restoring everything from steam engines to classic car parts.

Hope this helps

Where did you read that at? Seems like a wreck waiting to happen. What's the rest of the story? Gotta be more to it.
