so i was haulin' a load of manure out with the 970 and had just climbed back in the cab after cleaning the spreader up and was waiting for all the manure that was scraped off the lats to go out of the spreader. i looked at the gauges and the temp. gauge was right on the line of the red and green zones of the gauge it struck me odd because the tractor had not been running for but 30-45 mins 5 of which were road travel at full throttle. so i checked the water and it was low. i knew it was low before but not by enough to make the engine get that Hot! the last few days it never got that hot. i never saw a puddle of anti-freeze under the tractor and can't figure out where it all went! but i was wondering how much anti-freeze does the tractor hold? anyone know how the water was lost? it doesen't smoke bad like it's burning water. thanks guys

Forgot to add you only need about 2 inches of water above radiator core . If you fill to top as i said to check you can remove some otherwise it will blow excess out overflow an find its own level if all is well. Hopefully you were only low in collant an didnt hurt it

First check oil level to be sure none is in oil.Water in oil indicates o ring leakage. If ok fill to top an idle an watch if any bubbles come to top of radiator an push water out.Bubbles indicate cracked head-or head gasket or posibly hole in sleve but not likely as 970 not turboed If ok 1 or both thermastats may be bad causing overheating.Other things might be plugged radiator cores-bad water pump-loose belts-outside of radiator dirt filled.

yeah i put water in first to see if it leaked out anywhere but none came out. but i need to drain some of the water out now because it has 2 gal. of water in it and 3/4 gal of anti-freeze but no bubbles came up or anything and it held that level for quite a while. i let it run and checked it every 10 min or so. thanks DF in WI

I forgot to add that i don't have a manual. i inspected all of the hoses going to the radiator but none were bad. i really need to know if i need something fixed as i will be working it hard this spring plowing or disking. thanks
