My uncle bought a 730 new in November 1964. It said dual range drive on the side and was taller than the eariler ones. It had the rounded fenders on it and was not a comfort king. What years were these made? Are they pretty common? Anything changed besides the fuel tank and radiator, grill? I take it the comfort king models replaced these? Anything else I should know? We recently found this tractor. It has been out of the family since about 1973. I would like to buy it back if possible and need to know its value. It is a diesel with aprox 4800 hours on it, all original paint and nice straight tin and decals. Has always been shedded. Would buff out and look to good to repaint so will leave original. Not really for sale yet but who knows, just glad to see it again after all these years. If you guys can help me out you will gain a Case collector!

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions, I really apperciate it. It'

s quite possible this 730 was on the lot all summer before my uncle bought it. He traded in an Oliver Super 88 diesel which he had bought new on this tractor and dad didn't waste any time getting down to the Case dealer for that Super 88. That's how I know it was Nov.'64. The farm where the 730 is at is powered by all older Case tractors, at least a half dozen of them. They even have a 630 diesel narrow front, never seen one before. If I can talk them out of the 730 I'll let you guys know. It wont be easy though.

Here is what is on record of Case's 730 and up Series Decision Memorandum Information. 9/59 change to the "30" series tractors. 1/62 raise the hoodline 5 inches (your uncle's high profile) 4/64 release the "Comfort King" models for 1965 production. How soon the actual production started usually depended on how much old stock had to be used up before starting the new models. Your uncle's tractor was probably sitting "new" on the lot while the "Comfort King" series was already being produced. The 843 H.C. LP COM. was produced in 1966 (1) tractor that year....1967 ...(11) tractors that year. It looks like a total of 12 of these tractors produced in this combination. This is what my research has found....it could be wrong...who knows....you never know when anything is printed. I believe that it's probably correct and this model LP is quite rare. Happy Case collecting!

iluvcase That is what I have heard, but in 1966 and 1967 wouldn't all of those 12 tractors built be comfort kings? My tractor is not a comfort king which makes me think it is an early 1960's tractor. Do you have the serial numbers of those 12, if so could you post them so I can compare them to mine? Thanks!!!

Hi 530puller: 1966 serial #'s are- 8279001-8305500 and the 1967 serial #'s are -8306501-8332100. This should help you figure out just what you have. I have re-checked the records that i have and only 66 &67 production years that 830's were offered in the LP version.I also see that they made equal #'s of these tractors in the dual range version....(1) in 1966 and (11) in 1967. It looks like there were only two of the Lp's built in "66" and twenty two more in "67". I'm not an authority on these high crops...but i've never seen any with fenders. That's probably why you think yours is an older model. A "Comfort King" model without the fenders looks alot like the high profile tractors of the previous models. The "66" and "67" "case-o-matic" tractors have the COM lever on the left side of the dash. All of the rest of the COM tractors of the larger series..ie...."800"; "730"; and "830's" had the COM lever on the left side of the steering column just under the steering wheel. Who knows....maybe they built these 24 tractors and used up some existing old stock. I hope that this will shed a little more light on it for you. Good luck.

Thanks! I still don't think mine is a comfort king. The COM lever is on the steering column, it has no power steering, it has no pto and the drivers platform is not Comfort king. Could Case not have documented one of the early ones? I also found that it has no seriel number tag and doesn't apear to ever had one and the seriel # is not stamped into the block. Thanks!

Hi 530puller:Boy; anything is possible. I double checked my books and i only see 1966 and 1967 as the years when "830's" were built in the LP gas configuration as high crops. I still think that just because it does'nt look like a "Comfort King" does'nt mean that it's not that new. The engine serial #'s should be....prior to tractor serial # 8201146....located on the rear of the block(bell housing) just behind the oil bath air cleaner. After tractor serial # 8201146 the engine serial # should be on the front right side of the engine on top of the governor housing. There is also a block casting # on the right side behind the dist. up near the deck....this would help us narrow it down...if the block is original.....one never knows with this old stuff. It can be real interesting ; but that's part of the fun. It's always nice to know just what you have;if at all possible. What does your dash look like? This might not tell us much either if they used up old parts on these high crops. I do not have the "Comfort King" parts book for the 730-830's; but i have block parts #'s for the older models and probably could get the newer numbered block #'s if need be.

We have a few high profile 730's gas and diesel dual range, no lp yet! I have been looking for the 830's also. The high profile is not that common and were made right before the comfort kings came out in '64. They carried the comfort king sheet metal and fuel tank with clam shell fenders. I haven't found any exact numbers in my case data books. Most were dual range drive, I have seen a few with case-o-matics. If that tractor is as nice as it sounds, it should be worth $2500 - 3500, easily and if it was your uncle's maybe a little more due to sentimental value. The last one we bought sounds just like what your describing (paint, tin, etc.) except it was gas and cost us $2900. We don't regret it either.

530puller: iluvcase may have the exact production numbers, I would say that only about a 100 +/- were ever made. Any high crop Case is hard to come by especially a good descent tractor that is complete and doesn't need a lot of tlc. We have been looking for either Case 400-830 or Farmall 460/560 high crop and there are just not many to be had that are worth while without a donor tractor. Here in the Midwest doesn't help either. Usually they are to far away and trucking adds up quickly. I see I'll have to spend more time doing research. The few Case 730/830 high crops I have seen were between the $6000-8000 range. Complete, descent and good running tractors.

Hi 560farm: I've done a little detective work on the high crops tonight. Here's what i've come up with. These figures break down over several years. They built 42 of the "733's".....26 of the "743's" and 6 of the "743 LP's" for a total of 74 "730" high crops built. "830's" break down like this....130 of the "833's".....33 of the "843"s"....40 of the "843C's".... 12 of the "843LP's"....12 of the "843C LP's" and 167 of the "833C's" for a total of 394 "830's" I saw no "730" COM high crops listed....but; i'm only as good as what i can read. Someone else might have some different info. This is the best i can find for now....it's interesting to say the least. Have fun.
