Howdy from the Heart of Arizona.

I recently purchased a Case DC here in Arizona. I am trying to fix it up a bit and was wondering about where it came from. I would like to use it in one of the coming tractor pulls here. The Serial # is 5410381DC. I am having a hard time shifting it, and it does not have a belt for the generator. It runs good and the shifter goes from side to side but will not slide forward or back. When I get it to the left that is reverse and when it is to the right it is in forward.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

Hello Bill, shoot me an email; I might be able to help with your tractor woes. I"m in Gilbert if you want to drop by; I have some books on the D series and I have a DH apart in my shop.

Thanks for your reply. I have figured out how to shift the tractor, thanks to dctom, and the linkage seems tight now that I realize it shifts from side to side. The guages on this tractor are shot and I am worried about the oil pressure and water temp. I plan to change the oil and flush out the radiator which will help til I can get guages. It needs a battery box cover, a gas cap, the rubber insert on the top of the transmission and a new generator, voltage regulator and probably some rewiring for same.

I am working on finding the history of this tractor. DC Tom told me it was shipped from the Case Plant to Maricopa Tractor Company in Phoenix. As I was sanding the hood down getting ready for paint I found a decal. It is very hard to read but the two things that I can easily read are Oliver Tractor and Mesa, Ariz so I believe his history is right to that extent. I suppose Maricopa Tractor also sold Olivers.

I would love to come and visit, see your books and look at your machinery but try to avoid Phoenix like the plague. I was born there and the valley is nothig like the place it used to be.

I am working on the spring Arizona Flywheelers Engine and Tractor show March 17th at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds in Cottonwood. I hope to have this tractor figured out by then so I can use it in the Tractor Pull.

Thanks again and I wait to hear from you.

Hello Bill, go ahead and shoot me an email. I forgot to put it in last time (too much driving today, I guess. Just back from Yuma).

Thank you Tom.

That sheds a whole new light on things. I bought this tractor from a fellow from Minnesota and figured he had brought it out here from there. Now knowing that it was bought in the Salt River Valley and worked Arizona soil brings a whole new appreciation for this machine. I looked for any history on Maricopa Tractor Company without success. I will search further.

Thanks particularly for the shifting information. I am sure that will help with my frustration in trying to shift this mother. I had read about the shift rod wearing off and was thinking that might be the problem, but maybe not. It may have just been the shiftless shifter (me).

Thank you again for your information.

Bill
