I just purchased a 450 crawler with the 188 diesel engine. Before I use the machine I thought I should change the oil etc. Any advice or resources for the general maintenance I should perform. (Where and What to change, grease, etc.) Also any resources that would help me to obtain the correct oil, air, fuel filters would be appreciated.

Brain the best thing to do is get a operators manual from Case if you don't have one near you post me a message I can steer you to one that can help, these are not expensive and have all the info you need and more make sure you have serial # handy, congrat's on your purchase we sold a hole bunch of these in the 60's and 70's they were and still are great machines that with a little care would last a life time enjoy!! Thanks,

I did some shopping around..I found hard copies on ebay for about $130, but ended up downloading a PDF version for $19. Looks like it is about 700 pages and covers everything.

If anyone has wisdom that is not in the manual I appreciate any advice. I have never owned, run or worked on a crawler before.

I paid $7500 for the crawler with the backhoe attachment and two weights (one for the front and one for the rear). I am not quite sure how to put them on, since they are a couple thousand pounds chunks of cast iron. The machine has old forest service decals on it and looks like they took pretty good care of the old machine.
