I'm thinking of purchaseing a Case 450C dozer. One of the several things wrong with it is that it won't go unless you start it while it's pointed down hill. The owner said it has been like this since he bought it 15 years ago. He said he just put in a new torue converter thinking this would help but it didn't. I don't mind personally as long as it operates good when undeway however I plan on selling it after a year and don't want something like that making it hard to sell. I would like to fix it as well.

Thanks,

as the torque converter does not pump the oil that charges the clutch plates in the FWD and REV unit I can see why it made no differance sounds like the charge pump has a air leak that is overcome by putting oil level higher by pointing it down hill to get the pump to prime could be a seal ,suction tube not sealed, cracked or loose but I doubt loose for this long or it would have fallen off by now unless as I've seen some one put in the wrong bolts and they bottom out and not tighten up all the way and maybe the charge pump itself need to take a pressure reading with oil at operating temp to tell this also I would say this is a plain 450 if serial say's it is a 1975 they started making 450B's in 1979 have seen people repaint them and put the newer decals on them serial plate will be stamped 450 or 450B,C ect hope it helps Tom
