Recently had rotator cuff surgery right shoulder. Have DC narrow front with a 7 foot push blade on the front. My question, has any one added PS to a DC preferably full hydrostatic. What components did you use and where could I find them. Tom

I done it on my loader tractor with fixed wide front. Refer to old abes news about a year and half ago, Used case combine control and small cylinder with 16 inch stroke. used case combine pump for live hyd power. Can have wife send picts if you are interested. However cambolted might make you a hydro unit and ship it to you.

Looks sweet, Ted. I have already converted mine to Delco but am considering a hitachi due to my drag link hitting the delco. Since I am no hydraulic engineer my assumption would be that the torque booster and the pump would have inadequate GPM for full Hydro? Tom

Ted that looks like a reasonable start. Is this full hydro or semi. I suppose this is on one of the diesel conversions? Tom

No, That's on a restored 1954 DC-4 but, it will work on any DC or SC. It is simply a Char-Lynn Tourque Booster not a hydrostatic. I ran the pump off the rear shaft of the generator. Chevy and Hudson both used that type of generator in the 1950's. On the Diesels, since they ar 4X4 I use this the unit pictured above (New for about $350 ea)

The 50's Allis diesels also used a generator mounted pump, but a remote tank. I always figured a power assist steering from a Fordson Major could be made to work. Question of whether the draglink or piston stroke length are sufficient.

full hydrostatic would be hard. but it seems like a charlynn booster unit could be put in the steering shaft right below the steering wheel.

Could you move your suicide knob to the left side of the steering wheel? Seriously though, I have been thinking about ways to add power steering to the D series tractors.

I think it can be done without to much trouble, but you will probably have to design it yourself. If you are interested I can offer some suggestions of things I would try, but I have never actualy built one.

I think it would be pretty easy on a DC4, but not a DC3.
