Ted Egging(fonder of the Egging Cab CO, Gurley NE) Made his first cab for his brother-inlaw to fit a LA with a Detroit engine. Which by the way he was the first person to put a Detroit in a LA. and sold them with kits to fit LA's and various tractors. He cut all the angle iron parts for this cab with one blade on a hand hack saw. The neighbors liked the cab so well Ted went into business making farm tractor cabs. The Egging Co made thousands of cabs sold all over the USA. They quit making AG tractor cabs in 1973, the last AG cab was made for IH in that year. They than made full encloser cabs for Fiat Allis on there Crawlers and open POPS for Cat D-8 & D-9 Crawlers. They now make special parts for CAT. I worked as a CAT certified welder for them from 1973 to 1980. When I worked for them they had over a hundred emploees and now run about the same. They also have a factory in Iowa.

That is a cab built by the AUTOMATIC CAB CO.. ALL cabs for a 500 were aftermarket. The L was the last factory cab made of wood before the 500. Some Industials are an exception to the rule, like a DI and SI. I have a cab on a 600 ,that looks like it maybe was the fanciest dog house one could possibly buy, in its day.

Hey Don, the picture didn't come through. Sounds like what I wanted to see. My Bro. has a cab we think might be for the 500.

Thanks,

Wheat Straw

It's a picture of a cab I posted asking if it was original to my LA. It came off my 48 LA that has been in my family since it was new. My grandpa swore it came with that cab from the dealer. My guess is that it would also fit a 500. I have a picture of another LA with a newer steel cab on it like you see on the Molines also.
