WILL ANY OTHER ENGINE FIT THE 300 SERIES? THE ONLY THING THAT WAS GOOD WHEN I TORE MINE DOWN WAS THE HEAD. I NEED A CRANK,BLOCK,CAM, OIL PUMP, SO FAR I PRICED THESE ITEMS AT 1600 DOLLARS BEFORE REBUILDING. I DONT THINK THE TRACTOR IS WORTH IT. ANY SUGESTIONS?

There was a complete 148 engine up for auction on Ebay not too long ago. If you are willing to be patient, I'll bet one will pop up from somewhere. You may want to tyr posting an ad in the classifieds on this web site.

Hi Kyle: Do yourself a big favor and scrap the tractor and save whatever parts you can from it and look for another one that you can buy. Joe

The VAC block isnt the same as the 148. It is shorter in length by around a 1/2 inch or so. Yes it will bolt up but all your sheetmetal and things will need to be adapted. I have a couple 148s for parts if you are interested. Thad

Thanks for that info,Thad...I've beeen trying to get the skinny on that swap, but hadn't really had any luck. I had measured every way except length. I wonder why I didn't think of that...

The Vac is supposed to be the same block. I dunno about the crank journal sizes, though. I have a rebuildable shortblock if you need it,near WV? I'm gonna put the larger 148 in place of the smaller 124.I think you can chande the sleeves and pistons and turn a 124 into a 148,but I'm not 100% sure...
