Winterizing question

I am plowing snow with a Case D and it seems to be running richer than it does in warmer weather.

Does the oil in the air cleaner need to be thinned out for winter conditions?

I know the engine and trans oil need to be changed, but never gave any though to the air cleaner.

Thanks for the tips.

I decided to thin out the oil-bath with a little kerosene. Seems to work better now. In spring when I change the other fluids back to heavier weights, I'll change the filter oil too.

You should use lighter oil in the winter. Or use multi-vicosity oil. If you get very much blowing snow into the air intake, you can end up with water in the bottom of the oil bath that can eventually rust out the pan bottom if you are lax about changing the air cleaner oil.....

small self propelled snow blowers dont have a air filter at all...i'd dump the oil completely if all youre gonna do is push snow...dont forget to refill before spring tho
