I recently bought a case 300 for 1200 dollers, it ran fairly well with good oil pressure. to my surprize when I took the main caps off the bearings were shot. I pulled the valve cover off and turned it over and had oil pressure. I pulled the oil filter off and it was dry as a bone. I have to rebuild it now and I'm afraid of using the same oil pump. has any one had this probelm? why is every thing so expensive for 300's its almost discuting

Is this the same /similar engine as in the VAC? I rebuilt my oil pump when I went through the engine for fear of wrecking another crank and bearings, the bearings are getting expensive.

Like Joe said check for the tube in the oil filter, the last 300 I bought had the wooden rod still sticking in the oil filter, it had problems down under also. I found a pressure oil can laying around the shop, the spout was shaped just like I needed, and made one from it. Wasn't using it anyway. Roger

I assume you are talking the 148 cid gas engine, oil pressure should be 14 - 20 psi at 1750 rpm with the engine at operating temp. Low oil pressure is generally due to excessive engine clearances or pump relief valve leaking/weak spring than the pump itself. Free length of the spring is 1-15/16" and 4- lbs lb when compressed to 1-3/8".

Is the stem tube in your oil filter housing missing? They sometimes get broken off and end up discarded in the old filter. That leads to a dry filter media and somewhat less oil provided to the rocker arm area. You need some run off down through the pushrod holes to lube the mid & aft cam bearings.
