Dad is restoring a few CC"s and a C back to original. We have noticed that there are several different designs. What gas tank designs go to what specific years? I appreciate any information that may be helpful.

I own about 6 cc cases and a few c and a ch case and it seems that the tractors before 1938 use the two compartment tanks with the angle fill on the back/ then after that they used the tank with both fills on top. The replacement tanks after 1939 were the later design The electric start models I have seen used the later type. Tho I have seen pictures showing the early type of tank on them with the battery box mounted to the left of the fuel tank.I was once told by a older dealer that all replacement tanks had the double fill on the top of the tanks after 1939. I bought a new old stock tank from a dealer that had the angle fill on the back and on the tank and crate that it came in was dated 1941 so go figure?? I think before 1938 that most any c series tractor that had a electric starter option was retrofitted from a model CI I guess only mabe DCtom could tell. tho all 6 digit build cards are lost;

I have two C or CC single fuel tanks - only one filler neck. They are about four inches shorter than the dual fuel tank and require a different rear bracket. I was totally confused, took some time but found the tank and the bracket in the parts manual.

Robert: I suspect that what you have is an R or Rc tank; they had single compartments.

I have figured out that the 1929 - 1937 had only one filler on top and one filler in the back. The 1938's had both fillers on top. Case company made up some NOS tanks in the end of 1938. The tanks would go bad through the years and when the owner would get a replacement tank it would have both inlets on top. That is why you see them on all years. This is only my opinion and I have not seen any documantation to prove it.

Not trying to squash your theory, but I have a 38 CC, with it's original tank, and it has one filler on top, and one in the back, just like my 36 C.

Where's Harry Kline when you need him?

I guess I should of said that at a certain time in 1938 they went to the 2 inlets on top. As you probally know the reason the 2 inlets were on top is for the battery to be placed behind the tank for a electric start application.

CHANCES R, YOU ARE ABOUT RIGHT WITH THE TWO TANKS BUT I BELEIVE THAT THE ONES WITH BOTH FILLERS ON TOP WERE FOR TRACTORS WITH STARTERS AND THERE FORE A BATTERY IN PLACE OT THE TOOL BOX, MOST CI'S HAD A STARTER SO THAT TANK WOULD BE ON ANY YEAR OF CI AND OF COURSE IN LATE 38 CC'S WERE MADE FOR A STARTER AND THAT TANK WOULD BE USED FOR REPLACEMENT LIKE YOU HAVE STATED TOM

We sure are having great conversation on this topic. Keep in mind that some of the CI's at least the earlier ones had the battery mounted on the side of the gas tank as seen in the picture. Tom do you really think most CI's were electric start?

Tom, it could be that you remember me asking you about a 38 CC electric start. You told me it was a CI conversion. If this is true you have a great memory for a old f@rt. :) This is my 31 CINT with electric start, battery box on side of tank, foot clutch. And electric start CCS.

All the CD, and GC crawlers were built on the CI drive train with the foot clutch. I know of 8 of them, and I don't think any of them had the starter. DK
