How difficult (if even possible) is it to repower a 930 with a 70 or 90 series 504? Does it require an adapter plate? Will it fit under the hood? I would like some more HP to run the baler..... (grin)

will the input shaft and clutch out of the 930 bolt right up? Do I need to put side rails on it to stiffen it up?

You can put the flywheel from a 930 onto a early model 504 and the clearences for the clutch and imput shaft will be the same, you should also be able to use the 930's starter. As for the rest of the conversion you'll need to reroute the fuel and trottle lines(as mentioned in another post) and if you can find the right 504 it will already have the hole for the steering. the front casting will bolt right on, however the fan is going to be roughly 4" higher so you'll need to modify the radiator, the conversion I did we ended up useing one from a 70 series not only did it fit better but I didn't think the old radiator would provide proper cooling. Also I replaced the power steering pump with an auxillery pump on the the right side that was driven by the timing gear, you could also put a flow divider in the hyd line, but the engine came with the pump. With the 504 block you shouldn't need side rails but the wouldn't hurt.

Since the 504 has cross flow heads, you'll need to make some modifications in the hood for clearance.

I would not suggest trying to put that much HP through the 930 PTO on a regular basis. I have twisted my PTO off with a good running 401. When it twists off it usually goes inside the trans. input shaft, and splits the input shaft from all the pressure from the inside. Not much fun to fix. DK

It will bolt in, you need to make a provision for the steering shaft and adapt the throttle linkage (I'd use a cable like the 70's ect. use)
