OK, Here we go again. A 630 shift cover stuck on. It's loose but won't lift. Also, it acts like there is a dowel pin in the middle of the back side, because the cover won't move side to side in this area and I can't get a blade thru there. Can anyone confirm this?
I can get the front to lift about the thickness of two putty knife blades in the front. Only the thickness of one blade in the back.
Now what????
I know about the shift rails having to be pushed back to neutral from reading previous posts. But honestly, I can't lift it high enough to get a tool under there.
What about the safety switch? If I screw that out of the cover, will that leave me a hole to work thru to get at anything?
Any Case master mechanics out there who've done this before???
I'd appreciate any ideas short of a sledge hammer or torch.

Just came across your posting today, sorry can't help much with your problem since I have the same one. Can you tell me what your problem was and why you had to take the cover off. My problem was I just started to try and start the old girl this past weekend(didn't run it much over the winter) and when I was moving the shifter all of the sudden it locked up and wouldn't shift anymore, however the shift handle it'self now rotates weird which it it didn't do that before. Anyways I started to try to take the cover off last night and couldn't, so now I am here searching for answers... Did you ever get your cover off? However the back of my cover comes up more then the front? Do you have any diagrams besides the one in the I&T manual (that diagram doesn't help me that much) if you could send it to me that would be great.

Make a tool. in reply to Aaaargh!, 01-15-2007 16:10:27
I've had the best luck by using a makeshift tool. Use a piece of flat stock 1/8" thick, 2" wide, and 1' long. Taper one end about 3" from one end to a gradual point. Insert the tool from the side and tap if necessary to get it between the fork/rail and rail casting in the cover. Bend the tool if necessary to get the proper position. Move it back and forth. Try it from both sides. The stuck fork/rail should move into a neutral position, then the cover can be removed. The stuck rail/fork has gone under the rear portion of the transmission housing openning. That's why the cover doesn't come up much at the rear.
