Case VAC made in 1949

My family's little VAC has a serial number that says it is made in 1949, but my grandparents were sure, until I looked up the number, that they got it in 1948. Were tractors like cars, made as a certain model year, but sold earlier than that year?

You are correct about your assumption. Case did manufacture one year ahead as cars still do today.

Subtract 4 from the first two numbers of the serial number, and that will tell you what year it was made.

Serial number is 5351064. It is a '49. Maybe grandparents are just wrong. Who knows? Not too important.
