I own a 41 vai that I bought this fall as a working tractor for my small livestock operation for pen cleaning, snow removal etc.It runs beautifully and the engine is tight, however it does need some repairs. It has had an eagle hitch installed, but whoever did it didn't put any filtration for the oil,and it lifts okay but doesn't drop very fast. Also at some point it had water freeze in the transmission(I think) and it doesn't have fourth gear or a brake housing or brakes on the right hand side now. I have two questions.Where could I possibly locate the brake housing and needed parts at a reasonable price, and what tractors will make donors for this.I don't necessarily care about replacing fourth gear as I don't really need it for my operation and the tranny works well otherwise. Also was wondering if 10-30 oil wuold work in place of straight 30 weight, pro's,con's?Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Larry I think that your VAI is probably a 1945. The year of your tractor would be the first 2 digits - 4. I suspect that your first 2 digits are 49 and not 14. I do not know if any value is added by it being a former Corp of Engineers or not but a decent VAI should be worth $800 to $1500 - restored probably more.

If it realy is a 41, then it is a VI, not a VAI...post the serial # if it is there...The diffrence is, if its a 41, it will have a Continental engine. VI, and VAI parts are, for the most part, not interchangable.
