Does anybody know if there is an older L Case? Mine is serial #305203 made in 1929. We were told it was the 503rd built. We also have been told by Case people that this may be the oldest L Case left in existance.

My L has ser# 318252. I was told by a letter from the factory that it was in the first run ever made. I don't know if that is true. I do know that my Grandfather bought it in the fall of 1928 after it was shown at the Cheyenee CO fair in Nebraska. It was one of the first two sold in this County. My father was 21 years old at the time and he and his bro. were the first ones to run it. My father has been the only one to work on it. It has never been back to a case dealers shop. He run it until 1990. I still have it but the motor is stuck now and the rims are rotten. I need to put back on steel. Oh yes my dad put it on rubber in 1938.

Yes I know that c's and L's used the same serial number series and that the 503rd built may include c's. Also how do u reserve your name. I'm new at this.

Hi. My serial no. is 351231. Mine must be a way later one. Mine was changed to the V belt and has a later carb. Maybe the manifolds were changed too. It still has the old rocker arm oiler, oil cup sticking up thru the hood. After I bought it two guys came up to me and said it had AL. pistons in it. Thanks. Charley.

Ours are just 3 apart in number. Yours should have been the 5134th built. Where is yours located, and do you know much on its history?

Mines now residing in Central Texas, but I brought in in from west Texas where we believe it spent its entire working life.

Check out p. 328 of Full Steam Ahead for serial number records. According to Erb the blocks of numbers for C and L models could have identical numbers in them, with the C or L prefix determining the model.

As I understand the serial number system, L305203 should have indeed been the 503rd off the line. Mine should have been the 5134th of 6,800 built in '29.

One thing that you have to keep in mind. Serial numbers were not indicitive to each model. Tractor 305202 may have been a Model C.

Don't get me wrong, you've got an early one there.

Sir you are mistaken. Serial number 305203 is an L because I own this tractor. It is under restoration in my neighbor's garage.

He's saying that of the 503 tractors built, some of them might have been C's. Therefore yours could be a lot less than the 503rd L that was built.

No, maybe I didn't make myself clear. I'm saying that the tractor that was on the assembly line before or after yours may not have been a model "L". They didn't assign a particular set of serial numbers to a particular model of tractor.

Based on the production numbers as I understand them there should have been both a L3002001 and a C3002001 and so on. Same sequence number, but the alphabetical prefix makes them unique.

Different variations (such as Ind, Orch, Vin, etc)of the basic model were intermingled within the same numbers for the basic model.

As far as the actual number tractor rolling off the line, I don't know if C's and L's were actually built intermingled on the same assembly line, but of the many old factory photos I've seen, I tend to believe they didn't cross paths until they got to the paint shop.
