vac starts and runs pretty good but will from no apparant reason will backfire loud sometimes and will die other times it will keep running have put plugs and points condencer rotor cap any ideas would be welcome most times will restart pretty quick and run pretty good for a while

Check the plug wires...have to be solid copper core wires....If they are the silicone ones, will cause all kinds of funky problems like that....

Dirty Carb. Had same problem with my Oliver.
Clean carb and adjust main jet
