My Mom & Dad sold CASE for 35 years. At 1 time Case had dealers on every street corner & everyone starved. Mom & Dad survived that. Then , in 1964 Case wanted my folks to put up a new showroom & shop. Times were hard, so Dad said "no". Case pulled the franchise. John Deere had a dealer 5 miles West of us, & IH had a dealer 2 miles East of us who operated out of a hardware store. Eventually IH & Deere saturated the area. What did CASE gain? Nothing. Dad never stopped bragging Case equipment, but I can't repeat on here what he said of Case management.

Has anyone heard a rumor that Agco is trying to buy out Case. Was some talk about it the other day at work. Company I been with has IH for about 95 years, Case bought out IH ,then they become Case IH, Then the Case New Holland deal, now Case has dropped us as a dealer. Makes a guy wonder.

Thanks for asking!

Every corporate merger has some bad aspects and this one is no exception. There was a joke circulating after the buyout that Case was now one vice-president short of a full deck. It supposedly inherited most of IH's inept management which included 51 vice-presidents. The IH people have always been mistaken in believing that they bought Case and not the other way around. When it came to close out dealers the IH dealer almost always won-even if the Case dealer was stronger in some areas.
In my interviews existing dealers who were IH just bristle at being called Case and hate being reminded of their poor 2nd place market position and blame management. Existing dealers who were originally Case feel like orphans and hate management. Both camps are still unhappy after 20 years.
It is embarassing that AGCO has fully embraced its Allis, Oliver, MM, Cockshutt heritage and Case hides its past.

The unvarnished truth is that Case company has suffered under severe corporate mismanagement for the past 60 years. The management has squandered almost every market opportunity. Now they are simply willing to write off 1/2 of their history. If it wasn't for Rich Tworek, the company would be totally useless. It is a miracle that the company still survives in some form at all. Don

380, 480, 580. If you"re renting, most people will be using them or industrial/construction type work. These models were made to handle a little more abuse. If you rent out your average rowcrop tractor of any brand, get ready to repair them when they come back. People tend to figure out how to break the unbreakable. JMHO.

hi tom, long time no see. that's why both case clubs need to work together. get a few people from both clubs and meet with people at CNH. thats what the IH collectors did. they got in good with former v.p. jim irwin (came from IHC) and he took off with it. thats why i don't belong to either CASE club any more, they don't seem to care either!

For what it's worth, I agree with you guys. J.I. Case built some very solid and dependable machinery, and probably did as much to bring the farming and construction industry to where it is today as any other mfgr. There is history there that needs to be preserved, and that history needs to accesible. But, I don't know how to do it.

I must agree with you DCTom, Case has a fine history and I believe it was Case that bought Farmall, not the other way around. I work (worked) for a company that has had the same thing happen to it. When all of our big guys left the other company's higher ups have set about to destroy what was purchesd. The big guys can do a lot of damage if their heart's not in the right place.

What can we all do on this forum to try to make things right??

EVERY THING SEEMED TO BE GOING OK TILL TENNECO BOUGHT IH AND PUT THEM IN WITH CASE AND PUSHED ALL THE CASE MEN OUT AND PUT IN THE RED ONES, THAN IS WHEN THEY FORGOT ALL ABOUT CASE, THE COMPANY IS STILL THE "CASE CORP" BUT THAT DONT MEAN MUCH ANY MORE TOM
