Baldwin number for 830 hydraulic.....

Howdy all,

Got another challenge. Being out in the high desert of the Four Corners Region of the good ole' USA, the closest Case dealers are 150+ miles away. One doesn't return emails or phone calls, the other isn't a big Ag dealer and doesn't appear to be that interested in Ag applications...Case/IH corporate says to contact the local dealers for info (local is still 150+ miles away, and I already tried, no luck there!)...Catch 22.

I am trying to cross reference a Baldwin filter (Baldwin dealer about 3 miles away) for the hydraulic system on a stock, early model Case 830.

Case lists part number A27460, which cross references to nothing, anywhere.

Baldwin lists two filters, PT434 and PT435, which according to photos are very different filters..so one or the other might work, but definately not both. No one stocks either one, so it's a "crap shoot" which one to order. From the photos, it appears the PT434 is closer to the original.

NAPA and Carquest (WIX filters) show a spin-on for this application, and it's definately not a "spin-on".

Fram website's cross reference application was down the last time I tried, so my attempt at cross-referencing from one number to another to another isn't working out either.

Emails to Baldwin for help resulted in a reply stating Case/IH may have changed the part number, and suggests I contact Case/IH, which gets me right back to attempting to contact folks who don't return calls, don't want to mess with Ag stuff, and are 150+ miles away to begin with....

Hence my quandary!!!

Cary- According to my Baldwin Product Guide (2003), the PT 434 and PT 434-10 fit Case, Hough and International equipment. these Baldwin numbers replace Case D71352, Int'l 185531-H1. Hope this helps.

Thank you, Dave in OR.

That narrows it down a bit for sure. I will see if I can find out if the Case D71352 is a newer number for the A27460, and if that turns out to be true, then the PT 434 is it!

I just Love it... as much as I dislike JD and their equipment this is the very thing that I put into the face of every CNH salesman that shows up on my door step... their total organization is hindered by their continual buying out and selling and changing vendors. They still are doing it today...I have STX tractors that I pd over $600,000 for and they recently switched from Cummins to Iveco engines and my investment has greatly depreceated and I am now odsolete at 3 yrs old...OH well sounds like I am a JD salesman !When we restore old tractors the JD is the ONLY one left that can help us at the dealer...all others Well YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN ! Merry Christmas

I kinda feel the same way about "globalization".

I realize that most big manufacturers go global to compete on the world stage. Or good ole' U.S.A. companies are bought out by global business interests. But if that does happen, and the divisions can still maintain their "down home" sales and service expertise, they are winners all around. I suppose if Deere has been able to do that dispite being worldwide, it's no wonder they are the largest AG equipment manufacturer in the world.

"No." is the last thing a customer should hear when they are attempting to obtain parts or service from a company that made the product, no matter how old. Does CNH think I would be good an ready to spend my hard earned moolah on a brand-spankin New Holland from my local dealer, when I can't get parts for my old Case tractor?

Before I bought this old 830, which we are going to use extensively for maintaining dirt roads, I emailed Case/IH, and a fellow from corporate called me back within three hours, explaining how Case tractors are built to last, and I should have no problem getting parts, etc.

I felt pretty good about spending half of our voluntary road fund on this tractor.

Turns out, not one of the contacts he gave me have returned my emails or phone calls. The only two dealerships within a couple hundred miles of me don't have any real interest. (The one in Colorado doesn't even return emails or phone calls.)

I have gotten more information and questions answered on this message board than I can from the CNH people, and that doesn't bode well for me being a customer for new Case equipment any time soon...

However, I do wish to give a hearty thanks to all the folks here who are so helpful, it does make me feel a little less "on my own" when I try to get this tractor in shape for being stationed out in the boonies of New Mexico..

Merry Christmas!!

If you cant find filters you can care fully clean them (Carefully) Do not allow outside of filter to contact any dirt!!! Both filters are edge wound paper

www.wixfilters.com crosses a pt434 to a 51517 filter which napa crosses to a 1517 (napa filters made by wix just drop the first number to get napas number) which on their website shows to be a canister filter.

Thank you for the reply, Mark. However, I am unsure that the PT434 is the correct filter to begin with.

This may or may not help you. I recently was on the hunt for a cartridge oil filter for an LA. John Saeli and Tom Railsback on this forum helped me out but I did learn that the CaseIH website had parts numbers and information that even my very helpful local dealer was not able to find. I found a good parts number on the site and ordered it through the dealer. It was a Fleetguard element so before I used it, I checked with NAPA and was able to find it there too. I have the CIH site marked as a favorite on another computer but I originally got the address from this site. Also, the parts number on the Case filter boxes I got from Tom is still a good number and I'll bet the filters were made at least 30 years ago.

Thank you for the reply. I actually printed the exploded diagram and parts list for the hydraulic system from the CNH website (I'm getting quite a collection of printouts from there. Got quite a file started!).

That's where I got the part number A27460, but the two "closest" Case dealers are still 150-175 miles away. I've never laid eyes on either place, just attempted to communicate by telephone or email.

Interestingly, there's a Case/New Holland dealer right here in Farmington, but they cannot/will not do anything for J.I. Case tractors...I checked with them again just day before yesterday. I was told that the multi-national corporation that now owns both Case/IH, and Case/NH, is keeping them seperate...and only Case/IH can do anything for old J.I. Case equipment.

Howdy Mitch,

Hmmm, never checked David Brown stuff..my wife's uncle has a David Brown..it would sure be handy.

When you open the page, look to the right and you'll see something like "Start your parts search right here." Click on that. I tried bookmarking the parts search page directly in my "favorites", but when I went back to it, it always showed a "page timed out" error or something like that, so I had to "back up" one link.

Here ya' go..Merry Christmas!!

Carey are you able to provide me with link to this parts page that details the exploded diagrams etc. I am wondering if they also have David Brown (old British tractors now owned by Case IH) parts diagrams on the web. Any help in this regard is appreciated.

Mitch

I've heard the same thing plus we have one dealer (CIH) with partsmen who as soon as they hear JI Case, say, "We can't get anything for those old things," while another smaller dealer is willing to dig and search until he finds an answer. Also, I tried the use the number from the old filter route and hit dead ends all over. NAPA, Fram and Baldwin all listed filters for the LA but they said they were the same as the DC and that ain't so.
