The only engines I have seen this size bring a high price had either promenace from the past owner or had an A.S.M.E. stamped vessel, this engine does not, I was at the Sale, the Keck does have National Board papers to go with the Engine. The old 45 hp case was a lap seam boiler If I remember right and the past owner had restored the engine years ago, looked nice and I hope the new owners have fun with it.

This engine was recently bought for $20,000 it has not been run for a number of years, I believe he wants $35,000 and I do not believe it carry's any current boiler cerification and pressure rating but I may be wrong

I have done a hydrostatic tests on 440 Lb. boiler on the ship. It not hard but you need a good crew to man the hand pump to get it up to pressure. Of course these tractors are 150 lb. boilers and that should be alot easier.
I guess you need to get someone to verify the results.

If the tractor is in good condition I would think that 35,000 wouldn't be to high for 65 HP Case.

One might want the price to depend on the test though.

I think 21,000 is to High let alone 35,000 that some of you would pay. Here is another case steamer 1908 that sold for just under 16,000 ebay #120037421062 rated at 45 HP and ready to work/play and here is another steamer on ebay but not a case and no one even bid on it for a starting bid of 20,000 It's 1924 Keck Gonnerman steam traction engine 19 HP. ebay # 300044537249 I think it's what somebody is willing to pay to have one!!! Have any of you heard of the Durango/silverton narrow gauge railroad here in Durango, Colorado? They have many steam locomotives that they run almost year round, anyways there machine shop is the largest steam locomotive repair facility in the United States and they can make any part you might want for any steamer and I bet they can do the boiler testing also! Me and my wife make the Durango/Silverton trip once a year, A 50 mile trip through the mountains. It goes through the Weminuche Wilderness that I plan on making a pack trip into the wilderness with my mules and having a photo shoot along the tracks for a few days this next summer. Any body want to go?

What can I say, I love steel and steam!!! Chris Hotchkiss, CO

Chris,

Some day I hope to take the kids on the D/S railroad. I've been wanting to do it for years but now I think I'll wait a few more til the kids are little older to enjoy it.
