Got any suggestions? Was backing up to the snow blower, went to pull forward, and couldn't get the shift lever out of reverse. It was in low, so I tried moving it to D or H as it's a triple range, and no such luck. I've read somethings on this board about shifter fingers and such. Could one have be bent or worn or borken? Thanks. PAul

The Triple Range has nothng to do with being stuck in reverse. It's likely that the gear shift lever's end in the transmission is badly worn. That can cause the end to jam between shift rails instead of moving a rail. The transmission MUST be in neutral to remove the transmission cover. Of course you're stuck in reverse, hence the cover will not come off. The rail with the reverse fork is under the transmission lip. Get a 1/8" x 1" x 12" piece of flat stock. Use a hack saw to make a gentle point on one end. Remove the four bolts holding the cover in place. Insert the pointed end of that tool into the gap between the cover and transmission top. (Some have used a long thin screw driver.) Pry the offending fork/rail into the neutral position. The cover can then be removed. It's possible to build up the end of the shift lever by welding.

My 630 triple range has a neutral position. If your 630 does, put it in neutral with the triple range and pull or push it into a covered barn, shed, garage or the like and try to take the transmission cover off.

See my comments below on the other 430 transmission problem. If you have difficulties getting the cover off. Shift rod can also pop ot of engagement with forks and make it unshiftable, but it takesa real genius like me to do that and I was taking the cover off anyway when I did it.
