Got thinking about the mid-mount clutch on the 430. Does it allow you to change gears without the problem of the momentum of the PTO not allowing you to cahnge them. Like if I'm bush hogging and changing gears, I have to wait for the PTO to stop with the tractor before I move into neutral to switch gears. If I move into neutral to switch gears and the PTO's still spinning, I can't shift gears because then they'll grind. Will the hand clutch fix this? Paul

The hand clutch Allows the tractor the Live power feature ,,The ALLIS WD is a close cousin to the same style . The tractor was not designed to do gear shifting without dry clutch disengagement .The hand clutch feature when used correctly as CASE intended is for stopping to allow a slug to run thru the baler or ,Combine, and then resume same travel when cleared ,,however ,If you get proficient with driving these tractors that are so equipped ,You can shift up or down by gear gliding and judging your speed ,,similar to large truck trannys ,,,I must tell you that I have been able to switch from forward to reverse gears Using the Hand Clutch while running a sickle bar mower with very little gear glitch on a very hot day ,,The hotter the oil ,The easier it seemed to shift .,,,. But I Must also warn that the reverse fork and related componets seems to be the weakest link in this tranny style,, Same holds true for the Tough little VAC ,,,Keep that in mind each time you hear the grinding complaint when grabbing reverse ,,ALAS .Everthing has an ACHILLES HEAL ,,Good Luck, Jim
