I had a short in the cord on my Block heater for a Case 770.

Does anyone know a good place to get parts like this? I dont know if I need to replace the block heater as well, or just the cord.
Thanks in advance.

If you remove the damaged cord there will be two pins inside the housing. Check for continunity across the pins. If "open" the heater is burned out. If "closed" a new cord will suffice. Case part no A44813, $13.98, is available from my local dealer so your dealer should also be able to get it.

Gents,

Is this a pic of what you're describing? It's been on the side of my 401 diesel since I've owned it....

Yes, I believe so. Your photo looks just like the block heater cord-connection-fitting on my 2870. The missing 120V cord has the female connectors molded within a rubber end which is held in place and sealed with a special knurled nut that threads onto block heater.

Here"s a much better picture. As you can see, this heater has 3 prongs and doesn"t have any threads, so I"m thinking this is a different one than what you guys are talking about. Is this picture clear enough that you can tell?

Yes Doc, it does look different with the much better picture. 3-pins and no O.D. threads is certainly differnt than on my newer tractor. I looked on-line at the Case Parts illustrations to see if a block heater is shown for your 401 but could find nothing like my unit. If you want to try yourself the link is: Link (one long character string with no spaces) I find this website very useful. The illustrations are straight out of the parts manuals & the part numbers can help determine availability.

Jim - I"ve got an original parts book but it doesn"t show a block heater either. So, this one is probably after market. Thanks for the help.

Thanks, I"ll check the continuity, and if it"s okay I"ll pick up a cord and plug it in for the cold days....
