Hi,

I have a question about the glow plugs and a 630 diesel. This is my first diesel anything, so I'm not as familiar with them. The glow plugs on my tractor are not hooked up. Could anyone tell me how they are supposed to be hooked up and how much of a difference they make in cold weaterh starting?

Thanks,

Stuart

The object of the glow plug/s is to warm the engine intake air on cold days to facilitate easier diesel engine starting. Hold the key to the far right to energize the glow plug solenoid. Hold it in that position for 15 seconds, release, then engage the starter. The disadvantage of using the glow plug on Case diesels is the amount of current draw. The battery must be fully charged and in tip top condition. The amount of current drawn from the battery substantially reduces the cranking speed and length of cranking ability. I prefer not using the glow plug. I give a short shot of ether into the air cleaner intake. Within a couple of cranking revolutions, the engine is running. Never use ether and a glow plug at the same time! The glow plug will ignite the ether and likely cause an explosion. Then you'll be picking parts of your intake manifold out of the barn wall if not you! Perhaps the previous owner unhooked the glow plug/s to prevent that mistake?
