Not sure where you are located, but they can be very sluggish when cold. It seems to take a while to get the oil warmed up and moving good. You must have the engine at idle when first putting it in gear or it will grind like crazy, or you can put it in gear and then start it. They are great tractors. I have had one for 36 years and all I ever do is change fluids, filters, and an tune up once in a while.

start the engine let it warm up then with it running at about 3/4 throttle in neutral see what the pressure is on the caseomatic guage ( below the main dash) when the lever is in caseomatic (UP) , then put the lever in direct (DOWN) the pressure should drop then build back up to normal..

Very simple, and thank you for asking before condemning. First, make sure she idles good. ALWAYS shift into gear at a low idle.Expect some grinding, especially when cold. Then take your foot off of the clutch, or actually valve. Don't try top slip it or take your foot off slowly as it is just a valve. accelerate until the tractor is moving. Then take your foot off the throttle and pull down the COM lever and accelerate again. The lever locks the torque convertor. When you get to the end of the row and want to slow down simply flip the COM lever back up so it will not stall and do not worry about shifting. When looking at one to buy there is not much to see besides fluid condition and general maintenance. The guys on this board are very helpful with COM and you will love it if you give it a chance.
