I have a model 530 serial number 8215761, gas engine with model 31 backhoe serial number 4062314. Transmission is 4 speed with hi/lo shift lever on the right and the F/R shuttle on the left. Only had it for a year. Engine is strong, no smoke. When I first got it the clutch would grab only at the top of the pedal. Only drove it a little around my wood lot. Got it stuck this weekend and worked it hard to get it out. Now clutch won't disengage. Pedal has no 'stiffness' to it anymore. Can't shift it with the engine running without grinding the gears. Any ideas? If the clutch is bad do I need to remove the loader frame to split the tractor?
Thanks. Charlie

sounds like clutch just needs to be adjusted if its grinding when you shift gears.

Raise the bucket and BLOCK the loader from coming down by accident. We use an angle iron of the proper length and securely fasten it to one of the loader cylinder rods. With the loader raised you'll have the clearance to roll the engine/front axle forward to get to the clutch once the bellhousing bolts are removed. Jam a couple of 6" long 2x4's between the front axle and front casting to prevent the engine from tipping. Support the loader frames with blocking by the bellhousing before removing the four bolts behind the grill. You'll need to take out the two pipe nipples that supply the hydraulic pump with oil. From that point on, just remove the obvious to allow the forward movement of the engine/front axle with a roller jack.
