Test drove a 530 triple range this afternoon. The Transmission seemed to have alot of "whine" to it. Very noisey. What might cause that? Are they naturally that way, is it Worn out, or dry (couldn"t check levels today)? Seemed worse in lower gears and went away when coasting in neutral with the triple range in H or D. THanks.

Noise from the "triple range" comes naturally especially from diesels. The gears in the triple range that are NOT being used will vibrate at slow speeds. That noise can be reduced a little by making sure the torque tube is at the proper oil level. Oil will dampen the vibration.

Thanks. Sure seemed to come from the transmission area though. I did notice that the "LOW" range of the triple range sounded like it was grinding and I double checked to make sure it felt engaged and it still did it. Thanks again.
