Ok guys did I get scamed or am I doing something wrong. I just purchaced a C-4MA magneto off e-bay for my LA. The item as discribed by the seller said that he tested it and it had good spark at all four ports. It also had an old tag attached to the mag that said it was good and had new points back in 1987 but I was made to belive its been on a shelf ever since. I did as my operators manual said and put the spark advance lever in the down position and put a plug wire in the #1 hole and held it 1/8 inch from a screw on the case. I can get no spark out of any of the holes and with the advace cover/lever off I see no spark at any time when the mag is rotated and triped. The points appear to look good and when the distributer cap is removed all four little contacters seem to be ok. Any other ideas? Thanks a bunch for the help

When you put the advance all the way to the retard position you shorted the mag out. This how you shut down the engine.
