500 troubles - sleeve?

Hi, My '55 500 diesel has coolant in the oil - way too much, as in the dip stick is up to the top. 50% oil 50% coolant. Not good. I have always run it with oil and coolant (anti freeze) and never worked it too hard. I first noticed this at the other end of the driveway and had to drive it back to the house - ran it 10 minutes or so with the snowblower. Wonder if I killed anything doing that...guess I;ll find out.

I was thinking to drop the oil pan, take off exhasut manifold have a look, then start on the heads (3).

Before I get started though, I am wondering - will I be able to get parts for this tractor ie. sleeves, orings, pistons (hopefully not needed yikes!) - if so whereabouts? Im located in BC Canada. I have never worked on anything with sleeves - any tips would be appreciated. Imagine I'll need a puller of some type, and some help from my neighbour.

thanks a bunch,
Johnny

Some of the parts are available from Case yet. Besure to have block and head casting numbers before ordering. Sleeves are a wet sleeve so they should pull fairly easy. I was told there are 2 different sleeves for the 500. Think Don Livingston had the specs on the sleeves. caseman-d

thanks caseman. Do you have any idea about key torque specs - like the head bolts and con rods?

Think I have a IT manual on the 500/600/900. If not at home we should have the specs at the shop.

Thanks again. I drained out the oil/coolant today. Funny thing is I thought the rad would be down on coolant but it is not. I changed the oil and right away even before starting it was cloudy. Why? I put about 4 cups of diesel in with the new oil. Got it too the house. Tear down this weekend. Sad my Case is broken....

I'm from BC Canada - I think weve "chatted" before bout this tractor - I posted a ffew time sover the years. Youre about the only one who has ever replied - so many thanks for your wisdom. I will drop the pan as you say and watch closely. The beast is in such great shape otherwise, but I guess you can only ask so much from 50 year old + seals/orings. It came from Spruce Grove AB originally...Sometime I wouldnt mind phoning you. our phone # is 250 846 9306 and I could phone you back.

Always hate to see one of these go down. Couple of things to check before pulling the heads, pull the pan and see if you can see any coolant leaking into the pan. Possible sleeve rusted out, oring failed on bottom of sleeve. Pull the pan and look up you may be able to tell where it coming from,

What part of Canada you from, Was up by Brandon MB here a few weeks ago to pickup my 802. I also need to plan a trip to Medicine Hat Alberta to pick up my 812. caseman-d

Mtn time means an hour ahead of PST? Anytime on weekends is great, and with young kids we cant answer the phone sometimes around 8pm PST after that is good though. Thanks caseman.
