No, Case-O-Matic first came out with the 1958 model 800... Gene

Gene, I was at Clarion Iowa a couple of years ago and saw one in the boneyard on the east end of town. The top end of the engine was gone and some sheet metal also. It had long axles and axle duals but no rims. The serial number was 8069340 which should make it a 1955. I double checked the sn twice to be sure it was not an 800. I posted about it here but didn't get any good answers about it.

Tom;
It is very possible that someone has crossbred some parts and made a 400 with a 800 transmission and rear axle or even installed 400 sheet metal on the 800. That serial number would definitely have been assigned to a 1955 model.
800 was only made in 1958 (812XXXX) and 1959 (814XXXX) model year.... Gene

I know just about anything is possible, but just think about all the work that needed to be done. Steering column, cooler lines and cooler up in the front and so on. Everything looked perfect. Maybe someone had too much time on their hands. If Case did it, I would not expect it to have a S/N plate on it, and I'm sure they would have had several of them to run tests on. Tom
