Have a VA series case checked with Rich Tworek for build card but he said it was lost. How can I varify this is a original serial number not a replacement plate?

There is no way too be sure. There should be a number on the engine block. The number will tell you what years your tractor could have been built. For instance my engine number is 72 D00744 the serial # is 5451349. If I had an engine # prior to A4700000 then I would assume a data plate with 5400000 would be wrong. You can't be sure if the plate is right but you can ID some obvious mismatches....of course the engine could have been changed then all bets are off

Your ser. # is stamped on the bellhousing flang on the left side of the engine. they should match if everything is original. Of either the engine or the dash tag could have been replaced.

Walt;
The VA series tractors were built in Rock Island. Rock Island did not stamp serial numbers on the engine flange. Only Racine built tractors have the number stamped here... Gene

Maybe we ought to start a campaign to stamp the ones we"ve got for posterity? :-)
