Would anyone happen to have a pic of a LE power unit that might show the gas tank? I have the power unit, and the tank that came with it if off of a L tractor. It is shaped like the hood on the engine, but looks too long just sitting on the mounts. I guess my question would be would the tank on the L tractor be the same as the LE power unit? I believe the Power Unit to be a 1939, as the first two digits in the serial # are 43. Thanks for any help or advise. Bob

Hi Bob. No one has caught it yet or said anything. You might be figuring the serial number wrong. On the L and C you take the first and fourth number and subtract three. On the D & LA you take the first two numbers and subtract four. If your engine is like the one in the picture it is an L. Thanks. Charley.

When the serial number has seven digits, you are supposed to take the first two digits and subtract four. When the serial number has 6 digets you are supposed to take the first and fourth diget and subtract three. As far as labeling them CE and LE I just told you what was on the literature. I guess Case may have screwed up :)

Don't forget the exception to seven digit rule.....

7 digits begining less than 42 use the six digit rule. Should only come into play on '36 and '37 models. Their production exceeded the six digit capacity those two years prompting them to change their serialization system for the '38 model year.

Hi L.C.Gray. Thank you for explaining that. I thought all L & C serial numbers were figured the same. I didn't know that Case changed the numbering befor the LA & D came out. I learned something new and important. I have 1929 L, my Dads favorite tractor. He used to tell stories about one. One day I had to have one, so I went to an auction and bought one. Good luck. Charley, L C H.
