I have a 900 case and would like to turn it up a little for a pull that is coming up in a few weeks. I need to be able to outpull tractors such as 720,730 deeres, 560s, and maybe a 660 or two. What is the easiest way to get a few more ponies. I have turned the fuel up on an inline pump but never a rotary. So what is the trick?

Doug is right the old 100 series are just not big hp makers. I had a 500 that i got from a freind who built it. He installed 1030 sleeves and pistons to make it a 451. He ported the heads and installed the 1030 valves. He put a 1030 in line pump set up on it. Just to see how much diff there was in the heads and cam. We took a diffrent pump off a 1030 that hadnt had the seals broke so i could compare the ex smoke between the two. He had turned up the one he had on it. The one we put on it made it smoke way more than a 1030 did stock. So that just showed how much diff there was in the cam and ports in the heads. I pulled it for a bit and got rid of it. It was a good speed limit tractor but not a open speed. They have the older lower lift and duration cams in them so they dont breath well. I figured that this one was only doing 85 to 90 hp. All i know is my L at the time was 426 cubes with the overbore and it had way more grunt. Thad

smash the rotary with a sledge hammer and install an inline! A 900 is no ball of fire, air is the limiting factor not fuel.
