I have a 51 DC with leaking brake seals. I have removed the brake housings, but cannot get the brake rings off of the spined shafts. They are stuck. I have used penetrating oil to loosen them up, but so far it hasn't helped. Does anyone have any ideas on how to pull these rings out? Thanks.
Alan

Before installing seals, I wrap black electritions tape on shaft, starting from the inside. Over-lap as you work outward. I lube it and then slide on seal and housing. You can then unwrap the tape and its good to go.

If you can get a prize bar behind the inner plate and pry against it while you tap the disc lightly usually breaks it loose. Be careful not to damage the disc. Soak it good with penatrating oil before you start. I coat the splines with never sieze when I replace the disc.

I was just working on brakes on a friend's '48 DC and had the same problem. I have used penetrating oil and a ball pein hammer to tap all the way around the center disk without hitting the splines. If you can just get it broke loose and keep oiling and hammering you MAY get it off, but no guarantees. Anyone else with ideas on this problem? Good luck!!

P.S.
When you do get the brake disks out and get ready to replace the seals, put thin shim stock or aluminum foil over the splines so you do not cut the seal as you slide it over the splines. If you don't you will be wasting your money because they WILL STILL LEAK!!
