Case SC starter

I was trying to start my '54 Case SC in the rain the other day and either had too much or too little choke and it didn't want to go. I had the starter cranking for 2-3 minutes and was starting to get a pop or two out of the engine when all of a sudden the starter just stopped responding to the starter button. The battery's still got plenty of juice. I'm thinking I either burned out something or the starter got stuck in the flywheel. A friend with experience with tractors suggested towing it with my other tractor to get it started and verify that everything works. I'm wondering if anything (like the flywheel or the starter) might get damaged in the attempt. I'd appreciate any advice.

I would guess after 2-3 minutes of cranking the cables got a little warm. I would check all the cables and starter switch/solenoid. Was the starter humming or making any noise when you tried it again? I'm leaning toward electrical, but listen to Walt on the mechanical.

If the starter is stuck then don't tow it or you damage the engine or something in the drive train. To unstick the starter just loosen the bolts and rock it a bit it will pop right out.

No humming that I noticed. I'll try loosening the starter. Thanks.
