580CK Loader Question

I have a '66 580CK TBL. Last weekend I was using the loader to lift bundles of shingles up on my roof; with the loader extended straight up in the air it really feels like the front end is getting too light. Do I need to worry about popping a wheelie when I use it like this? Would it help to set the backhoe on the ground? Straight down or extended back? Would using the backhoe outriggers make it better or worse? Or should I just shut up and hang on?

Thanks
Tim

We also have a very usefull 580CK TLB, it's invaluable around our farm & shop. As to your concern about "doing a (over backward) wheelie" when the loader is at it's highest >>> certainly not >>> but you may tip over SIDEWAYS if not on reasonably level ground, especially while moving. We just finished loading 40, 8-yard, truck loads of topsoil without any concern of "wheelie" but extreme care is needed when lifting a full bucket of dirt to full height when the last bucket loads are topping-off the truck. Keep tractor on level ground and don't lift high until very close to the truck. Extending the backhoe, straight back, (a little) helps transfer some weight for rear wheel traction but usually not needed just for a bucket of dirt or shingles. But, make sure the hoe is not swung sideways when the loader has any weight lifted above the hood. This will also contritube to sideways rollover. Just trust your inner ear and don't make any movements too quick. Hope that helps rest your mind.

Great, now I have to worry about tipping over sideways too:)

Thanks for the advice, Jim. I do try to be very careful when working on any kind of slope and I always keep the hoe centered unless I'm using it.
