I aquired a Case SC with the old farmhouse that we bought. I have searched and believe that it is a 1956. I have a couple of questions about it as I want to start restoring it this winter. All the mauals that are listed either say with or without Eagle hitch, how do I know if mine has an eagle hitch? It doesn't have a 3 point or hydraulic lift on the back, just the drawbar with pto. And second, the tractor has a distributor ignition, and all the ones I have seen at shows have magnetos, is this some conversion a previous owner did, or did they come from factory with distributor? Thanks for any help you can give.

I went out to the barn and checked this out again as it had me confused. There was another number at the beginning of the serial number, it is really difficult to see, I took the plate off and was able to see it. The screw head was covering most of it up, the correct number is 4601992SC, so it's a 1942 model.

The serial number is 601992SC, which if you subtract 4 from the first two numbers is 56. I looked up the serial number on this website with their serial number link and it says that numbers starting with 60 are 1956 models. I know that their isn"t a three point with hydraulics or anything in the back, just a pto shaft and drawbar. I haven"t had the tractor running to see what all the pedals work or anything, hopefully will get working on it here in next few weeeks.

I have worked on restoring a 1954 SC Case. You need the serial number of the tractor in order to get the right books on the tractor. My SC has clutch pedal on left with seperate brake pedals on the right.Earlier tractors have all kinds of combinations as to pto and lift. Mine has live power on the pto and Eagle hitch. I have some info on seal crossovers and have found everything for the tractor except main bearings. I found out there is several bores for the tractor a standard and a overbore that is about 1/8 th larger. We learned that Chevy 350 exhaust valves can be cut down for both the intake and the exhaust valves when you ream out the guides.

One thing I would do early on is drop the oil pan and check the bearings and the oil pump screen. Mine was holding good oil pressure but upon looking the oil screen was covered except for an area about the size of a dime. It was a disaster waiting to happen. Also a good primer works wonders under your topcoat paint.

The Case is a well built tractor and is fun to fool with. We had mine running in one half hour after we filed the points and put some real gas in the tank as the other owner had her full of drip gas from the oilfield.

I am no expert but will help any way I can.

If its an SC, it can't be a '56, the last one made was in '54 & its serial # will start with 80. If its an SC, w/serial # that starts below 80, subtract 4 from the first two digits (my '44's serial # is 4809716SC, ie: 48XXXXX-4=44 to get the year). An eagle hitch is Case's version of a 3-point. If you have one, it will have two hydraulically operated lift arms with brackets on the ends that open and close and will allow a pin from the 3-point implement to enter from the top when open. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Also, many of these tractors have an after-market distributor conversion. All of the SCs were originally built with mags. I have a '44 SC and it has been converted to a distributor.

Case did not build the SC until 1956. The production was from mid-1940 to about 1953 when Case went to numbered models. Subtract 4 from the first two numbers of the serial number and you should have the correct year. If you post the serial number on this board the old-timers can tell you the exact year of production.

As for the three point look to the left of the pto shaft under the guard. If there is a small arm it will rotate when the small pedal on the other side is depressed while to the PTO is running. This was the Case mechanical lift, used primarily for lifting cultivators. It is possible to use this lift with an old Case drawbar c-arm and springs on a small blade or other light implement.
