we have to install a new elbow and the sleeve between the elbow and the turbo on this 1175 and don't know exactly what type of gasket the sleeve takes on either end. is it a steel ring or some sort of packing? if anybody knows i sure could use some info on it.

ok folks i appreciate the input. now could some one give me an idea about how much space is needed for expansion? would something like a tablet back on one end be enough? or a sheet of paper on both ends maybe? since i never seen a paper spacer i have no idea on the thickness.

well folks i sure appreciate your feedback. two say no gasket and one says a metal gasket. the local parts place said no gasket to but it was just hard to believe that something would be designed to leak from jumpstreet especially exhaust fumes but i recon we"ll go with no gasket.
thanks again!

As stated by others, no gasket was used on 70 series, only on 90\94 series used a ring\gasket with a paper spacer.

My parts books are @ shop so I can't give you a number,, but all Case Turbo's, 1175 thru 4690 use a laminated metal gasket between Turbo & neck.

There should be a metal gasket as well as the paper spacer. I seems to prevent some of the smoke under the hood. Tom

There is no gasket on either end, it is just a slip fit and needs to expand and contract as it heats and cools.

JHH is right. The sleeve is supposed to turn free when cold. This is an expantion joint so the turbo does not bind. The 90 series used a metal fiber gasket and a paper spacer. the paper burned away and left the gasket for expantion. I have put the metal gasket on a 70 series tractors to try to slow down the smoke. No gasket or seal in there but you might see in parts what looks like seal but is only a paper spacer that makes sure you have clearance when installing,. Burns away later.
