Looking at buying a 4494 Case tractor. We've had a ''78 2670 for about 25 years and this year crank blew. Cost of fixing it not really worth it for me. Question I have is can I just "easily" throw on the intercooler and injection pump to get the same ponies as my 2670, I need the extra ponies for deep-tilling and plowing in the fall. Anything else I should be looking at for problems? Thanks a lot in advance!

I took out a leaky Intercooler of our 4690, & installed an aftercooler out of a mid-range Mack truck. It fit well between the radiator & grill. I had a local muffler shop bend pipe to plumb it in. Case wanted $1,000 for a new cooler. I think the aftercooler is more efficient anyways.

Part # for what? We went to a Truck salvage yard for the Aftercooler. They had dozens & dozens of them of all shapes & sizes. We just picked out 1 that looked like it would work. I now wish I could have found a somewhat larger 1. On a 90 degree day I can only get 10 PSI Boost, which is OK, but on a 60 degree day we can get 15 PSI.

The 24's, 44's had the top compression ring in a steel insert. The 26's, 46's had both compression rings in a steel insert in the aluminum piston. The sleeves were the same.

We were told years ago that the 2470's and 2670's had different heat treatment on the sleeves for the different horsepower levels so the part numbers were not the same. They would all fit but would not be right. I do not know if that is true, that's what we were told.
