If you want to get the sizing right on everything you might do well to get a donor skidsteer and move parts from one machine to the other. You"ll need to match engine speeds, motor speeds and all that up. While it might work when you"re done, I"m pretty sure you"d have less time in just going through what is already there and fixing what"s wrong with it instead. A conversion like this is likely to be a real time-sink to get it done and done right. The other thing to remember is that a skidsteer is used to moving wheels around and the tracks are going to add a significantly larger load when you go to skid them... so you"ll need increased horsepower over what the skidsteer has, on a per-pound basis.

Sounds like a fun project but not one I"d attempt without a full machine shop and a lot of time and money to do. A lot of small crawlers lost out to skidsteers because they are a lower mainenance platform (think tracks versus tires). So it depends on your capabilities, ingenuity and situation.
