Hello! I found an SC in good shape (other than rust) and bought it. Who do I contact about the build card for this tractor - DCTom or Rich? The serial number is 5317171SC, and after reading the messages on here, I know it"s a 1949 model. It also needs a water pump and I was going to take the suggestion I read on here about having NAPA rebuild it. The right fender has a little rust on it, but otherwise the whole tractor is solid and the sheetmetal is great! Any suggestions or advice for a first-time SC owner? Thanks!

Lee,

Sounds great! I too have a '49 SC, the wide front model. If you are going to have the cooling system apart, you may want to consider putting in a thermosat. My '49 did not have one, and would not run up to temp. I put one inside the upper radiator hose just above the waterpump. I bought a 160 degree one, I think it was for a Ford Maverick but not totally sure, anyways, I cut it down so it would fit inside the hose, and held it in place with two hose clamps, one on each side so it cannot move. Make sure you have it facing the right way. I also drilled a few 1/8" hose in the thermostat flange before installing it to allow a small amount circulation before it opens. My only complaint is that I should have went with a 180 degree one, that's the recommended operating temp. I run at 160, but would rather be at 180 so I'll probably be changing it. This forum is a great help, with a lot of great knowledgeable people. Post a pic when you can, I'd like to see your SC. Take care.

Dan
