Hello, I accidently ran out of diesel while plowing with my 1971 diesel Allis 170 tractor. I filled it up right away but cannot get it started now. Any suggestions/help out there?

After bleeding air from the system, you can keep the engine running by spraying small shots of WD-40 into the intake intil the engine runs on its own. A diesel will run on WD-40 and it's safer than ether.

Years ago WD40- that might work- now, it"d not as good as skunk pizz. Totally reformulated! Wouldn"t even ignite today on a Reddy Heater! He needs to bleed the entire system.

When you say "you filled it up" were you just talking about the tank? if so you have to get the filters full as well or it will never start. You can either drop them and top them off out of a can or if fuel will gravity flow you can just bleed them at the plug on top of the filter housings.(first choice) until you get pure fuel...good luck...OCG

If he ran the tank dry, I'd suggest changing the filters now, too.

You should also bleed the pump too! there should be a drain valve and you can bleed air out. Also as mentioned, bleed the injectors by loosening fittings, also DO NOT use preheater with ether and only spray in ether while cranking the motor, it also would not hurt to preheat the block by plugging it in or using tiger torch. good luck, don't crank starter too long, ie 5 min total or you will cook it wait 1/2 hour then try again.

Try a little ether (Starting fluid) the air bubble may pass, but dont go overboard with teh stuff. a little squirt goes along ways.

The injectors are air locked and need to be bled.
