Please advise me. I'm in the process of restoring a AC CA and had to buy 2 new rear rims. My question is what color should they be painted orange, or silver?

David,

I had a problem with the silver metallic paint drying out and being easily scratched off the rear rims on my 1950 Model B. I know the purists will scream, but I painted my rear rims with Ford Light Gray oil based paint and have been well satisfied with the durability.

It looks good with the A-C orange also.

Go ahead, be creative!!

I like to use the silver paint from Case IH for their rims.

I have a similar question about a UC Thomson cane tractor. Mine presently has remnants of black paint on the rims. I am leaning toward painting them silver, but I would solicit opinions. Not sure if I'll follow your advice, but I would welcome the comments anyway. BTW, this tractor is a '36 model and has 38" rear wheels and 21" fronts.

Dave, the rear rims on your CA should be silver.

Got a 35 wc that has Black spokes front and rear and a 38 that has silver rims all the "CA,s" I have seen have silver. But if you do your own thing you will be happy even tho the correct police don't like it.

Just finished my CA and used a paint color called argent. Most of the major car companies use this color for steel wheels. Looks like silver metallic but is not as glossy or bright. Its hard to tell exactly what shade of silver is correct since paints are made differently these days. BTW, having your rims sandblasted before painting will leave a texture that does wonders for paint adhesion. Brian
